Ergonomics

The word “ergonomics” is derived from the Greek words: Ergon (work), and Nomos (natural law). Ergonomics, also known as Human Factors Engineering, originally referred to the study of people at work, and in particular their interaction with technologies, ranging from hand tools to complex technological systems. Today much of ergonomics deals with situations outside work, including the home, entertainment, and any other domain in which people use technology. Ergonomics aims to improve the quality of life by making technologies as efficient, comfortable and safe as possible. This is achieved by designing tools, technological systems, and work environments that are compatible with human anatomical, physical and mental limitations and needs. In order to reach these aims, ergonomics as a discipline integrates knowledge from various domains, such as, anatomy, physiology, psychology, engineering, and design.
